Lynda Wolfe Smith, Director of Community
Relations
Ms. Smith has 35 years experience in the
field of public education grades 6-12. During her career in the field of
social sciences in urban public education, she taught economics,
political science, African American Studies, United States and World
History and geography. Her greatest pleasure was experiencing the growth
of students who excelled beyond their personal expectations.
During her tenure, her students won many award winning research/study
projects. She also takes pride in the many students who have excelled
professionally in careers in education, public service, acting, music,
sports, finance and every walk of life.
She was sponsor of student academic and social groups including The
Washingtonian Student Bank of Atlanta, Entrepreneurs for the
Twenty-first Century and the Black Pearls of the Young African Woman’s
Coalition. During her teaching career, she received awards as Junior
Achievement National Teacher of the Year, Junior Achievement Bronze
Leadership Award, winner Runner-up GAE Teacher Hall of Fame, and
recipient of a Readers Digest Scholarship Fund grant and Honorary Life
Member Georgia PTA.
In the professional community she served as President of the Atlanta
Association of Educators, former member of the Board of Directors of the
Georgia Association of Educators, and GAE Retired Executive Committee
where she is the co-editor of the award winning In the Know Newsletter.
In the community she has volunteered at Morris Brown College and mentor
to numerous former students, their children and friends.
She received her B.S. Degree from Alabama State University with a major
in Social Studies and a minor in Political Science While at ASU she was
the only female member of the ASU Swimming Hornets and SIAC conference.
She also holds a M.A. Degree from Clark Atlanta University in Secondary
Education with a focus on the Social Sciences.
She is proud mother of Ebony R. Boswell with husband/entrepreur Bruce
where she is employed wit the Dekalb County Georgia Sheriff’s Department
as a Detention Officer and son Jabari M. Smith with the National
Basketball Association and partner Teneskia Purnell with Nationwide
Insurance Company. She has five grandchildren, AJ, Jamari, Jabari, Jr.,
Breana and Serena,
She is presently President of Beyond the Green Card in its first year of
structuring during 2010. The mission of BGC is to educate and motive
citizens as well as permanent legal residents to the avenues of
opportunities that are available through American citizenship. The
not-for-profit initiative is Children with Helping Hands, to promote
education and philanthropy.
She enjoys interacting with adults, helping children, swimming, reading,
African American and biblical studies.
